Practical planning guide

Core-drilling quote checklist

A core-drilling enquiry needs a penetration schedule: finished hole diameter, quantity, marked location and known concrete thickness, with access and handling details.

Prepare a hole schedule

Record each required diameter in millimetres, the quantity and the location shown on the plan. Identify whether it passes through a wall, floor or other concrete element. If a diameter or location is provisional, mark it that way rather than mixing it into the confirmed schedule.

Record concrete thickness and drilling access

Include concrete thickness where known, the floor level, working height and the route for equipment. Show access to the work face and any relevant opposite-side constraints. Photographs support the description but do not replace structural or services information.

Gather structural and services information

Share available reinforcement, post-tensioning and embedded-services information. Say what investigation has been completed and what is still needed. The project’s responsible parties determine design, clearance and approvals; the enquiry is a scope-review step.

Confirm core handling and the finished penetration

State what the next trade needs from the penetration and ask the office to review any angle or finish requirement. Confirm core handling, water/slurry arrangements and making good where relevant. A requested date and indicative layout remain subject to agreed scope and availability.

Your enquiry checklist

  • Diameter, quantity and marked locations
  • Known thickness, working height and floor level
  • Available structural/services information
  • Handling, finish and programme requirements

Send what you know and identify details still being confirmed. These guides help describe a project; the agreed site-specific scope determines the work.

Discuss your project
What should a core-drilling hole schedule contain?

Use an identifier for each location, the finished diameter in millimetres and the quantity. State whether the hole is through a wall or slab and include known thickness, working height and the drawing reference.

How should provisional hole sizes be listed?

Mark provisional diameters, positions or quantities clearly and explain what is still being resolved. Keep them separate from confirmed requirements so the quote review does not treat an estimate as a final instruction.

What additional tasks should a drilling checklist cover?

Include investigation, set-out, core handling, water and slurry collection, installation and making good where relevant. Identify the responsible party for each task and what you want included in Quickcore’s scope.
